Psalms 37 reads: Fret no thyself because of evil doers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. (WHY?) For they shall soon be cut down like the grass and wither as the green herb.
My yard gets weedy at times because I'm too busy to mow or it rains too much too long. When it gets unsightly the mowing is more difficult and tedious. Parts of it requires mowing more than once at different heights before I can get it right. It tires me, get me hot and maybe smelly somewhat. After the job is completed, oh how nice to finally get a large glass of cold water and sit on one of my swings and enjoy the view and the fresh smell of the manicured yard. Success is pleasurable.
Dealing with difficult people is much like this. It requires dedication, compassion, and endurance to complete.
King David gives some key points to consider in Psalms 37:
1. Trust in the LORD, and do good, so shalt thou dwell in the land and verily thou shalt be fed.
2. Delight thyself also in the LORD, and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
3. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
4. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him:
5. Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
6. Cease from anger,
Trusting in the Lord and doing good is a foundation that is solid and sure.
Delighting thyself in the Lord creates joy, happiness and contentment. When those attributes become a part of your life then the desires of your heart arrive on your doorstep, You see, those desires of 'wants' leave. When you stop feed the dog that hangs around the backdoor, the dog will leave and go elsewhere to get fed. Your desires to have the finer things that the neighbor has will leave and you will want in relation to God; not peer pressure.
Commit: Football fans have this. They love their teams whether they are having a winning season or a losing season. They are true fans. Committing to the Lord doesn't immediately erase the troubles and fill the pantry and the car with gas. Resting in the Lord and waiting patiently while not fretting when you see others with abundance, grows our faith. The closer we get to Jesus the tighter the door is shut against anger.
The hymn Father Along tells the story.
- Tempted and tried, we’re oft made to wonder
Why it should be thus all the day long;
While there are others living about us,
Never molested, though in the wrong.- Refrain:
Farther along we’ll know more about it,
Farther along we’ll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We’ll understand it all by and by.
- Refrain:
- Sometimes I wonder why I must suffer,
Go in the rain, the cold, and the snow,
When there are many living in comfort,
Giving no heed to all I can do. - Tempted and tried, how often we question
Why we must suffer year after year,
Being accused by those of our loved ones,
E’en though we’ve walked in God’s holy fear. - Often when death has taken our loved ones,
Leaving our home so lone and so drear,
Then do we wonder why others prosper,
Living so wicked year after year. - You work work work to dress the children appropriately and then the washer quits, the ice maker quits then the car develops an oil leak. Meanwhile the ones who don't go to church, drives around in a forty thousand dollar 4x4 truck and has a shed and yard full of ATVs, boats and campers.
- Psalms 37:16-17 reads: A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.
God is there for you in the good times and bad times; when the wicked see troubles, there is no one to console them. - Verse 18: The LORD knoweth the days of the upright; and their inheritance shall be for ever. You see . . My payday hasn't arrived yet.
- Galations 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he reap. You can't carry your money to Heaven with you but you can send it on ahead. What you do here on this earth determines the type of mansion you will spend eternity in. Yes, talking about works. Works don't save you, and can't get you even to the gate, but they do determine many things in eternity. 2 Corinthians 5:10, 2 Peter 1:11, 2 Corinthians 3:15, Revelation 3:11 and more.
- Philippians 3:13-14 Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus
- FRET NOT . . . PRESS TOWARD THE MARK
